Description
Waterperry Gardens are just 7 miles from Oxford and open 7 days a week except between Christmas and New Year and during Art in Action each July.
The eight acres of landscaped ornamental gardens at Waterperry have inspired and delighted countless gardeners for more than 75 years. Dating back to 1932 when Miss Beatrix Havergai opened up her School of Horticulture for Ladies, the gardens have evolved into an oasis of calm and beauty in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside.
The ornamental gardens themselves include a rose and formal knot garden, water-lily canal, riverside walk and one of the finest purely herbaceous borders in the country. Herbaceous nursery stock beds provide a living catalogue of plants, and there is also an alpine garden, and the National Collection of Kabschia Saxifrages. The gardens are open several times a year in aid of the NGS.
A commercial plant centre, stocked with plants grown in on-site nurseries, occupies large areas of the beautiful walled garden and the site also boast five acres of commercial orchards, producing thousands of bottles of Waterperry apple juice each year. There is also a gallery, museum of rural life, Saxon church and teashop and Waterperry's educational links remain strong, with gardening courses held throughout the year.
There is a charge for entrance to the ornamental gardens. We also offer preferential rates for group/coach bookings of 20 or more. Please see our website for more details.
