Golf Courses in Oxfordshire

There are many interesting and challenging golf courses in Oxfordshire spread throughout the county and suitable either for the novice golfer or for the more experienced golfer.

There is the championship “The Oxfordshire Golf Club” at Milton Common near Thame set in beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Oxford. Designed and built by the architect Rees Jones, it has an excellent clubhouse, Japanese and Continental cuisine in their restaurant, conference facilities and is also a licensed wedding venue.

The spectacular three courses at the Frilford Heath Golf Club, Abingdon, offers a total of 54 holes of first class golf and the courses have sandy sub soils which means they are rarely affected by heavy rainfall. The quality of the courses has attracted many first class amateur players for over 25 years for the Frilford Gold Medal. In 2008 the club will celebrate its centenary with various open and club events to mark this landmark in the club’s history.

The Carswell Golf & Country Club at Faringdon was established in 1993 and is a par-72 18 hole golf course. They also have a health club with excellent equipment and highly qualified personal trainers. They also offer a range of beauty treatments such as sports massage, reflexology plus life coaching, a dietician and even a hair salon.

The Springs Hotel & Golf Club at Wallingford offers good accommodation together with an excellent golf course set in 133 acres including three lakes and is bordered by the River Thames. If you don’t wish to join the golfers you can try your hand at coarse fishing, a game of croquet, a sauna or swim in their outdoor heating swimming pool. In the evening you can join the rest of the party and dine in their Lakeside Restaurant that has a 2 AA Rosette standard and a well stocked cellar of international wine.

In the Chilterns is the Henley Golf Club, Badgemore Golf Club and for those touring the Cotswolds there are golf courses at Burford, Chipping Norton, Heythrop Park, the Wychwood at Lyneham, Witney Lakes and many more.

Wherever you decide to play golf in Oxfordshire you will be surrounded by breathtaking countryside, lakes and wildlife and what could be better exercise than walking around a golf course.

The pro shops cater for all the needs of the golfer plus on the courses you will find driving ranges to practice on (many floodlit) plus putting and practice areas and if you want some expert advice why not book some lessons with a club professional?

Many of the golf courses in Oxfordshire offer corporate hospitality days with club, trolley and buggy hire available together with welcomed refreshments waiting at the 18th hole and excellent food in their restaurants.
