Out and about in the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding natural beauty that lies within the counties of Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire with parts in Wiltshire, Somerset and Worcestershire.
When you are out and about in the Cotswolds take time to walk along some of the Cotswold Path, it totals approximately 103 miles with spectacular views along the way.
The Cotswolds history is steeped in sheep farming and with the good fortune of the wool merchants this can be seen from the fine manor houses and churches throughout the area.
Out and about in the Cotswolds wouldn’t be complete without visiting some of the bustling market towns such as Woodstock, Witney, Burford and Chipping Norton where you will see the famous Cotswold stone, a honey coloured limestone. Take time to visit the quaint tea-rooms and antique shops along the way and don’t forget to stop for lunch in one of the many country pubs and restaurants.
At Woodstock a must visit is Blenheim Palace with its fantastic exhibitions and room settings in the Palace. There is always something to do and see in the town itself, there are a number of fine hotels to stay in and excellent restaurants to dine in.
In Burford there a number of traditional pubs and restaurants and antique shops and some wonderful picturesque hotels down the main street.
Chipping Norton is the gateway to the Cotswolds with the famous landmark of Bliss Mill which is now converted to luxury apartments.
Witney is a thriving market town with good shopping areas and plenty of places to stay and eat in the town.
