Out and about in Charlbury

Charlbury can be found nestling in the Evenload valley, away from major roads with beautiful views across to Cornbury Park, a 600 acre estate surrounded by the Wychwood Forest.

When you are out and about in Charlbury you will discover its history, from the beginning of its creation from a clearing in the Wychwood Forest through the 18th century and its glove making industry which made Charlbury prosperous. The history of this small market town can be found in the town’s museum in Market Street from April to September.

When you visit Charlbury be sure to visit the Cornbury Park which is part of the National Nature Reserve and which is owned by Lord Rotherwick. On your path through the Estate you will see fallow deer and other wildlife.

Charlbury Railway Station gives excellent access to Oxford and Paddington and was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

During the second week in July when you are out and about in Charbury you can join in the town’s annual beer festival and also be sure to catch the musical festival at Cornbury Park, a typical English country fayre with fun for all the family.
