Henley-on-Thames is set amongst the Chiltern countryside and is best known for its annual Royal Regatta first held in 1839 and has been held each year with the only exceptions being during the two world wars. It starts at Temple Island and finishes at Henley Bridge and brings teams of rowers from all over the world in early July - a fantastic day out and about in Henley to absorb a fascinating pastime as well as a splendid opportunity to people watch. In 2008 Henley Royal Regatta will take place from Wednesday 2nd July to Sunday 6th July.

Following the regatta there is the Henley Festival and in 2008 this is being held from the 9th – 13th July and features such singers as Alfie Boe, Natasha Marsh and Lesley Garrett. A range of restaurants will offer a selection of food and drink during the five evenings or you can even order a picnic. During the festival there will be roving artists to entertain you plus art and sculpture exhibited and not forgetting spectacular fireworks displays.
