Shopping in Oxfordshire

Shopping in Oxfordshire is of the highest variety and has something for everyone.

At this festive time of the year be sure to visit the famous Oxford Covered Market and be prepared to step back in time as you see the Christmas trees and mistletoe together with turkeys ready to be bought for that all important Christmas dinner with friends and family. Take time to visit all the different shops and colourful stalls and perhaps dream a little of Christmases past as you gaze into the decorated shop windows and soak up a true market atmosphere. As you meander along the many rows of shops don’t forget to stop for a cup of warming soup or a mug of hot chocolate, there are plenty of warm places to sit and go through those all important shopping lists ticking off a present bought here and there.

Outside the market is an array of shops waiting for you along both the main streets and in the shopping arcades such as the Clarendon Centre and the Westgate Centre which are scattered here and there adding to the charm of Oxford making it a truly shoppers paradise and take time to visit the Templars Square shopping centre at Cowley too.

The Bicester Village retail park offers designer shopping in Oxfordshire all in one place - it has bargains galore and means that special designer outfit for that special occasion is yours for the choosing.

Take a visit to Banbury with its many shops in the Castle Quay Shopping Centre and combine it with a walk along the nearby canal and stop for a cup of your favourite drink, maybe a cappuccino or cup of Earl Grey tea in one of the town’s many cafes before returning home.

Didcot and its Orchard Centre is an ideal venue to combine both shopping and leisure as it now has its own cinema. The Orchard Centre has a good variety of shops ranging from Next, Argus, Woolworths to Sainsburys and just a short walk away in The Broadway is WH Smith, Wilkinson and Boots making it an ideal place to shop.

Throughout the county of Oxfordshire there are the many market towns and villages offering a huge variety of shopping experiences - quaint market towns and newly built shopping centres both indoors and outdoors mean that whatever the time of year the shopping in Oxfordshire is whatever you want to make it. Whether that is purchasing souvenirs of your visit, gifts for friends or a special treat for yourself you will not only find what you are looking for but can enjoy the sights and sounds of Oxfordshire into the bargain and at this time of year all our county’s villages and towns are decked with lights and have special evenings arranged to prepare for the festive period.
